Celestia announced that the Fibre upgrade has been rolled out on the mainnet. The project described today’s development as the largest upgrade undertaken since the network’s inception.

Fibre was developed to expand Celestia’s data accessibility infrastructure. The goal is to enable the publication of data on a larger scale, which is required by blockchain applications and high-volume networks.

The project’s previously published technical specifications stated that a large-scale test of the network layer achieved a data transfer rate of 1 terabit per second. However, this test result does not mean that the mainnet is consistently used at the same capacity today.

Fibre is designed to work in parallel with the existing Celestia data accessibility protocol. This allows developers to utilize different data publishing options according to their needs.

The team sees this infrastructure as crucial for AI agent payments, on-chain finance applications, and high-volume digital marketplaces.

TIA’s price has risen by 3% in the last 24 hours. However, this altcoin, which once had a market capitalization of approximately $3.5 billion, currently stands at $576 million at the time of writing.
