Russia’s Central Bank to decide whether crypto trading acceptable or not

18 March 2018 21:00, UTC

Alexei Moiseev, deputy head of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, has told the journalists from the regional press that the final word about the issue of the legal status of digital currency trading belongs to the Central Bank. Apparently, the Ministry has decided to cede this issue to the main financial regulator.

“Yes, the disagreement with the CB has been resolved and this issue has been entrusted to the CB. The CB will make decisions [on this matter],” Alexei Moiseev stated.

The CB or the Central Bank has previously expressed serious doubts that digital currencies should be made legal in Russia, proposing to do this only with ICO tokens instead. The Finance Ministry objected to this, telling that the total prohibition of cryptocurrencies would only create a shadow market. This in-government debate has already been described in detail in older reports by Bitnewstoday.

It is worth mentioning how the issue of digital currencies resurfaced right after the local presidential elections, staying in the background for several months. Apparently, now that the President has secured his position once more, domestic issues and draft laws are returning on the agenda.
