500 BTC ($5M) will be confiscated from identity forgers
Identity forgers creating fake documents accept Bitcoin, as witnessed by the recent news on the upcoming confiscation of 500 BTC from one of such criminal groups. At the press time, Bitcoin is worth $11,542, which makes 500 BTC a big sum of $5,753,422.50.
It is not clarified if this criminal group stored 500 BTC on physical wallets or on a particular digital currency exchange platform. The group also owned cash money and gold bars which will be confiscated by American prosecutors as well.
This is not the first time we see the United States government confiscating digital assets from criminals. Just this February, the US Marshals Service has sold 3,813 BTC and thus gaining millions of revenue. Bitcoins were first acquired by this service as a result of various cases with criminals who previously possessed this type of finance which still looks questionable for many bankers of the world.
Other news involving criminals and cryptocurrency can sometimes be more offline: for example, a Canadian gang once tried to rob a crypto-related firm but failed because the amount of people in the building was bigger than they thought it would be.
