US Vice President JD Vance said Washington will not engage in dialogue with Tehran unless Iran stops its attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking at a press conference at the White House today, Vance stated that approximately 15 million barrels of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz the previous day, and argued that one of the reasons for high gasoline prices was Iran’s attacks on ships.

Vance stated that the US has taken various steps to increase pressure on Iran and end attacks on commercial ships, adding, “My advice to the Iranians is to stop acting recklessly and stop firing at commercial ships.”

Vance stated that Washington has additional tools it can use against Iran, some of which President Donald Trump might employ, while others might not be activated.

Vance also noted that maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has largely returned to pre-conflict levels. However, emphasizing that diplomatic talks would not begin if Iran’s attacks on ships continued, Vance added that the US is not currently conducting a “large-scale military operation” against Iran.
