Changpeng Zhao (CZ), founder of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange Binance, issued a warning today and announced that $BNB Chain's official X account was hacked.

CZ said in his post that $BNB Chain's official X account was hacked.

Numerous posts regarding the mysterious Airdrop announcement from $BNB Chain's X account have set off alarm bells.

CZ took immediate action and warned of a possible risk.

The hackers announced an airdrop and shared a link to an address in their posts. However, no such airdrop was mentioned on the project's official website.

The links shared in the airdrop announcement were directed to a fake $BNB Chain website with a different domain name, which was a “phishing attack” where hackers were able to obtain personal information and credentials from a user trying to log in.

Warning about possible risks, CZ asked users to connect their wallets to the requested link.

“BNBCHAIN X account has been compromised.

The hacker posted links to a series of phishing websites asking for Wallet Connect.

DO NOT tie your wallet…”

In a subsequent statement, the team announced that they had regained full access to the $BNB Chain account and stated that the estimated loss was only $8,000.

Stating that all victims will be compensated for their losses, the $BNB Chain team shared the information they obtained:

The root cause of this breach is still under active investigation, and we will update you as soon as possible. The estimated damages are $8,000, and full compensation will be paid to the victims.

Here's what we've gathered so far: – 10 phishing links were shared across all chains, resulting in the theft of $8,000. – The largest single victim was a single user who lost $6,500. – A phishing contract address was distributed. The attacker initially injected $17,800 and sold all of their meme tokens for $22,000.

We are so grateful to our community and partners for their rapid spread of the word, vigilance, and support throughout this incident.”

Despite the hack, the $BNB price remained stable, falling only 1% in the last 24 hours. $BNB continues to trade at $1,010.
