Moms are increasingly turning to crypto as the world edges towards a digital landscape.
According to a report by NBC News, moms are diving into the crypto space in an attempt to educate themselves on the digital landscape. The report profiles the efforts of Sarah Monson, who became motivated to learn about cryptocurrencies and NFTs after Facebook’s announcement last October about its focus on the metaverse.
Monson, speaking at the NFT LA conference, which took place in early April, told audience goers that she wanted to be prepared for the metaverse and to help her 6-year-old daughter navigate the increasingly complex digital landscape. So, she began learning about metaverse-related technologies, including NFTs and cryptocurrencies.
She said,
My whole point was, I want to educate myself. I lived in Seattle during the dot com bubble and I had no voice or power to do anything.
The report claims a growing number of mothers are beginning to invest in crypto, a market that has traditionally been dominated by younger male investors.
The majority of mom investors interviewed by NBC News claimed that they were interested in crypto as a way to “meaningfully change” the financial security of their families. Some of the moms said they felt their perspective was in stark contrast to the “crypto bros,” that have dominated the landscape over the last several years.
Olayinka Odeniran, the founder of the Black Women Blockchain Council, told them:
With more and more parents entering this space, we have a different mindset. Our approach is different from the single guys or girls who are solely here just to invest. We’re here really because we want to leave something for our family and we want them to be able to participate in our space.
