Signal, a cross-platform encrypted messaging tool, is now accepting cryptocurrency donations in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), and many other altcoins. According to the main landing page, the cryptocurrency donations will be received and processed through “The Giving Block,” a crypto donation platform. The messaging app allows end-to-end encryption, which means the messages sent across the platform can only be read and accessed by the sender and receiver. In the last year, a crazy rush on data privacy, combined with Elon Musk’s promotions saw Telegram and Signal downloaded by millions of people as Facebook led social platforms to backtrack data privacy. “If you want to receive a tax deduction in the US for the fair market value of your cryptocurrency donation, you can optionally provide an email address to receive a tax receipt,” a statement from the team states. “The Giving Block also supports anonymous donations.” Recently, news broke out that Signal plans to launch its own cryptocurrency payments platform using a Stellar-based project. Several companies, organizations, charities, and politicians have also accepted cryptocurrency donations in the past, including Dave Portnoy’s Barstool Sports, Minnesota, and Florida congressmen Tom Emmer and Darren Soto too.
