Pavel Durov, the CEO of the popular encrypted messaging platform, Telegram, has denied emerging reports that the firm wants to sell the company. Rumors emerged that the Durov wants to sell the company after the failure of Telegram’s blockchain project, TON. The CEO said:

“We are not selling Telegram – neither in part nor in full. This will always be our position.”

Based on an August 5, 2020, report by local tech publication iXBT, Russia’s internet company Mail.ru is one of the parties that are highly interested in buying Telegram. An unidentified Russian billionaire also wants to acquire the company. That information was reportedly shared by Kirill Promzin, a Russia-based trader and analyst.

According to reports by iXBT, Promzin predicted Bitcoin’s 2017 bull run five years back in 2012. It even called the asset’s eventual high of $20,000. A short while after the iXBT’s report was published; the Telegram CEO offered an official statement about the US move against Chinese-based TikTok.

Based on an August 4 Telegram post, Durov said that Telegram has always declined offers to sell all of the Telegram’s operations in several countries.

The news comes a little while after Telegram allegedly shut down the test network for the Telegram Open Network, or TON, on Aug. 1, 2020. The company officially announced plans to suspend support of the TON testnet in early July 2020.
