Tether, a stablecoin issuer, has expanded support for $USDT and Tether Gold within MiniPay, a self-custodial wallet developed by fintech company Opera and built on the Celo blockchain. MiniPay allows users to send, receive, and store stablecoins without direct interaction with blockchain infrastructure.
As of December 2025, MiniPay counted around 7 million phone-verified $USDT wallets. Monthly activity showed steady growth in unique buyers and transfer volumes, reflecting rising demand for stable digital money in regions with limited banking access.
MiniPay additionally supports Tether Gold through XAU₮0, a token backed by physical gold. This feature allows users to hold gold-linked value alongside $USDT, offering an alternative savings option amid rising gold prices.
