  • Jumping again into the limelight, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he also believes the creator of Bitcoin, the leading cryptocurrency is hyper secretive cryptocurrency expert Nick Szabo.
  • In 2014, when a team of linguistic researchers studied Szabo’s and other ten possible creators’ writings alongside Nakamoto’s bitcoin whitepaper, they found the results to be uncanny.
  • Another reason why Szabo is often linked with the digital asset invention is that he also created “bit gold” cryptocurrency in 1998. However, he has often denied this assumption multiple times.

Elon Musk also believes the widespread assumption that the mysterious creator of bitcoin, the crypto king, is the highly private cryptocurrency expert, Nick Szabo.

“You can look at the evolution of ideas before the launch of bitcoin and see who wrote about those ideas,” Musk shared with Lex Fridman, the artificial-intelligence researcher, in a podcast broadcasted on Tuesday when questioned about the identity of the creator of  Bitcoin.

The Tesla billionaire said while he “obviously” didn’t know who created bitcoin, Szabo’s theories seemed fundamental to creating the leading cryptocurrency.

Musk also said that he certainly doesn’t know about bitcoin’s creator, but theories put forward by Szabo seem quite fundamental with the invention of the leading cryptocurrency.

“It seems as though Nick Szabo is probably, more than anyone else, responsible for the evolution of those ideas,” he says, “He claims not to be Nakamoto, but I’m not sure that’s neither here nor there. But he seems to be the one more responsible for the ideas behind bitcoin than anyone else.”

Bitcoin was first created in October 2008 by Satoshi Nakamoto, a pseudonym behind which could be a group or even a single person.

A team of linguistic researchers found the results to be absolute when they studied Szabo’s writing and other ten possible creators alongside Nakamoto’s bitcoin whitepaper in 2014.

The researchers said, “The number of linguistic similarities between Szabo’s writing and the bitcoin whitepaper is uncanny,” they further added, “None of the other possible authors were anywhere near as good of a match.”

Szabo has repeatedly denied claims that he is the mysterious creator behind the invention of digital assets, although he has publicly talked about bitcoin and blockchain technology. However, a 2015 New York Times report also proclaimed Szabo as the creator of bitcoin.

He also created “bit gold” cryptocurrency in 1998, which could also be one of the reasons why he is assumed to be the creator of Bitcoin.

“What is a name anyway? It’s a name attached to an idea. What does it even mean, really?” said Musk indicating that he doesn’t believe there is much significance attached to the identity of the creator of Bitcoin.

To support his view, he quoted William Shakespeare, saying, “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”
