An interesting development has emerged regarding the event organized by Yuga Labs. According to the reports shared on social media, some participants who attended the ApeFest event held in Hong Kong on November 4th experienced eye health-related issues such as burns, vision impairment, and extreme pain. Many community members who participated in the event continue to complain about this problem and heavily criticize the team.
Noteworthy Claim at ApeFest Event
The Yuga Labs team addressed the issue through their official X account and expressed awareness of potential eye health-related problems among the participants. It was also announced that the causes of this issue will be investigated.
The Yuga Labs team claimed that less than 1% of the participants experienced eye health-related problems, and most of the affected participants showed improvement in their health over time.
The Hong Kong event made headlines on X throughout the weekend and drew the attention of the crypto community members. Many participants put forward various theories behind the eye injuries. One of these theories referred to a similar incident that occurred during a promotional event six years ago.
During the event, third-party organizers had installed disinfectant ultraviolet (UV) lights instead of stage lights, which caused similar eye injuries, burns, blindness, and photokeratitis discomfort, just like at ApeFest.
Yuga Labs Team Under Criticism
Another group continues to emphasize that the effects of UV lights can last from a few hours to several days depending on the duration of exposure. Participants criticized the organizers behind the event, warning them to pay more attention to basic medical hazards:
“I can’t imagine paying so much money to be part of a club that ignores basic medical hazards. I have a UV disinfectant lamp at home, and even being in the same room with it when it’s on is not recommended. The instructions state that you should not look at the lamp or be near it as it can emit ozone, a poisonous or carcinogenic gas.”
Many participants who attended the event also lashed out at the Yuga Labs team due to this unfortunate incident, stating that they took out loans to attend the event and asked how they will pay their hospital bills related to eye problems.
