The San Francisco congressional candidate Agatha Bacelar is gathering funds for its political campaign in cryptocurrencies. The candidate has an official website called Agatha For Congress and it informs it accepts several digital currencies as donations.

Agatha Bacelar is a Stanford engineer and designer that worked with Emerson Collective and Democracy Earth. She is also running for Congress with the primary election taking place on March 3rd 2020.
Founded in 2015 in Palo Alto, California, Democracy Earth is a project that aims at creating platforms for decentralized and incorruptible online governance.
The Congress candidate is now trying to gather $1 million in cryptocurrencies in order to be able to fund its political campaign. The virtual currencies accepted include Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and USD Coin (USDC).
In order for her to be able to raise these funds, they are using Coinbase, one of the largest and most recognized cryptocurrency exchanges in the United States and the world.
Agatha Bacelar’s official site explains that she understands that crypto is about building alternatives that do not exploit users and creating an ecosystem of innovation.
Moreover, Agatha Bacelar is running against Nancy Pelosi. Bacelar considers the political establishment is currently trying to hold back a future where economic freedom is affordable to all.
The official site says that San Francisco’s crypto landscape has been negatively affected by regulators:
“Blockchain startups no longer incorporate in the US, while regulatory inaction and policies favoring big tech companies have allowed monopolies to block out competition that the next web would bring.”
The candidate’s site says Agatha Bacelar is going to Congress to bring informed, practical, and future-savvy tech regulation to the “forefront of the picture in Washington.”
Agatha Bacelar is not the first U.S. candidate that is gathering funds in cryptocurrencies for a political campaign.
Andrew Yang is currently running for president in the country. He is also a supporter of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology and he is in favour of a Universal Basic Income (UBI) for all Americans above 18 years-old.
In addition to it, the controversial crypto supporter John McAfee is also trying to run for president and help the crypto and blockchain industries expand in the country.
Both Andrew Yang and Agatha Bacelar are running for candidates for the Democratic party. Moreover, Tulsi Gabbard, part of the Democratic party, has also purchased digital currencies back in 2017.
