Intro: The political leaders of the U.S. are embracing cryptocurrencies or digital assets in order to win their candidacy from their respective states. Some mayors from the large and small cities are also pushing the adoption of cryptocurrencies and giving away BTC to the residents to win.

This has become another stint for the electoral candidate to change the tide in their favour by favouring cryptocurrencies or digital assets. Some mayors of the U.S. cities large and small have been pushing for crypto adoption or taking favour of digital assets.

Curtis Sliwa, a beret-winning Republican running to be a mayor of New York City in his campaign said that one of the goals of his campaign is to focus on cryptocurrencies. He had tweeted about the steps to be taken regarding cryptocurrencies. He will focus on expanding access to financial services in New York by opening more crypto ATMs.

He also plans to incentivize businesses to accept cryptocurrency. The campaigning website of the mayor highlights his campaign, and also informs that the candidate is accepting donations in U.S. dollars only using personal checks or credit cards.

Competition against democratic candidate

Sliwa informed that he was always fascinated by cryptocurrencies and announced his intentions for the adoption of cryptocurrency in New York in June, ahead of winning the Republican primaries in the race for the mayor of the city. Sliwa is the founder of the crime prevention group Guardian Angels and is reportedly the owner of 16 rescue cats. He will be competing against Democratic candidate Eric Adams in November.

Adams too is also an avid supporter of cryptocurrencies. He has also taken a pro-crypto stance by pledging to make New York City, a bitcoin hub and other cryptocurrencies if he won the Democratic primary against a former presidential candidate.

It is not the case only for these two candidates who are running campaigns for the adoption of cryptocurrencies to win their candidacy. There are other mayors of the U.S. Cities, small or large, that are pushing cryptocurrency adoption or favouring digital assets.

Jason Stewart, Mayor of Cool Valley, Missouri, has offered to give away over $ 1 million in Bitcoin (BTC) to the city’s residents. The population of the city is 1,500.  On the other side, the Mayor of Miami, Francis Suarez has also said that he owns cryptocurrencies and wants to make the city of Florida attractive to those in the crypto and blockchain industry.
