A Bitcoin and cryptocurrency trader living in the eastern part of the Netherlands has been robbed and tortured in a brutal way by three criminals. Fifteen police investigators are on the case.

According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, the three robbers entered the house with firearms and put a heavy drill on the chest of the victum and, with his 4 year old daughter watching, turned on the drill. The trader got heavily injured. After an hour the three criminals, who were wearing bullet proof vests with police logos on it, left in an Audi A6.

The police is not releasing any information yet on the motivation of the robbery, but De Telegraaf and local newspaper Dagblad van het Noorden are reporting that the victum traded in cryptocurrencies. Police sources confirm this.

The victum lived and worked in Italy and Thailand before. He is registered at an Italian address.

It's not the first crime in the Netherlands with cryptocurrencies involved. Last year, a man was sentenced to two years in prison for laundering two million euros worth of Bitcoin. The 'Bitcoin launderers' are interesting targets for criminals because of the large amount of Bitcoin they hold. There are also cases of so-called 'wizzkids' that work for criminals and took large amounts of Bitcoins and left.Image credit: Dagblad van het Noorden
