Samsung Galaxy S10 Adds Support for Private Keys

The new security feature integrated on the Galaxy S10 is called Samsung Knox. This will allow users to store their private keys and protect them against attacks and hackers.

The official blog post released by Samsung reads as follows:

“Galaxy S10 is built with defense-grade Samsung Knox, as well as a secure storage backed by hardware, which houses your private keys for blockchain-enabled mobile services.”

During the last few months, there have been several rumours related to Samsung releasing a phone with an integrated hardware wallet. Some images were showing an application called Samsung Blockchain Keystore on the Galaxy S10 that allowed the crypto community to speculate regarding a crypto wallet integration with the device.

In the press release, there is no information regarding this wallet. Thus, it remains to be seen whether this was just a rumour or a real functionality integrated into Samsung’s flagship smartphone. Indeed, there is no information n whether there will be support for a full-scale wallet developed b Samsung itself.

This is the first time that a smartphone producer offers crypto-related solutions. Neither Apple nor Google have been offering similar solutions in their last devices. However, this could eventually change in the future if Samsung’s solution proves to be successful.

Although the most important smartphone manufacturers did not enter the crypto market, there are other new players that are trying to offer blockchain services. This is the case of the HTC Exodus that will be launching with support for several blockchain networks. The HTC Exodus will also include support for the Brave browser.

The blockchain company Sirin Labs held an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) to raise funds and create a blockchain-based smartphone. The company has created the Finney smartphone that includes several functionalities as well.

Samsung has also released the new Galaxy Fold, a smartphone that has a foldable screen. The price for the new Galaxy S10 smartphone starts at $749 for the S10e series.

It will be interesting to see what other smartphone manufacturers will do in the future.
