Cricket legend AB de Villiers to launch a cricket game with NFTs and "play and earn" features

Renowned cricketer AB de Villiers will be launching a blockchain-powered cricket game in partnership with Myria. The game is set to feature non-fungible tokens (NFTs), as well as tokens that players will be able to earn through gameplay.

AB de Villiers is widely regarded as one of the best players in the history of cricket. During his 15-year career in international cricket, AB de Villiers was selected as the ICC ODI Player of the Year three times—only one other player (Virat Kohli) has achieved the same feat.

The legendary cricket player has teamed up with Myria to utilize their fully-featured platform for developing blockchain games.

Myria has launched an Ethereum-based layer 2 scaling solution that helps keep transactions quick and costs low for players of blockchain-powered games. The layer 2 utilizes ZK (zero-knowledge) technology, more specifically zk-STARKs. In this way, a large number of transactions on layer 2 can be bundled into a single transaction that is submitted to Ethereum’s layer 1.

Through the partnership with AB de Villiers, Myria is hoping to bring the benefits of blockchain-gaming and digital asset ownership to the highly dedicated cricket fanbase. However, Myria emphasized in its press release that the “play and earn” elements will not be the only reason why people will be excited about the game. The team says they will work to ensure that the game itself provides an experience that is engaging enough that earning tokens will not be the primary reason for playing the game.

AB de Villiers also commented on this very topic, saying that the project’s top priority is to make the game fun and exciting for cricket fans:

“The main thing is that there is no compromise. My cricket game will be fun and exciting just like a match on the field, but it will also be equitable and empower digital asset ownership. Myria shares my commitment and together we will bring new cricket experiences to my fans.”

The upcoming game from AB de Villiers and Myria will be available for the iOS and Android mobile operating systems. Myria expects the game to be launched in the second quarter of 2023.
