Actor Anthony Hopkins was one of the first major Hollywood stars to get into the NFT film space. The storied thespian now appears ready to to dive deeper into the NFT world, sharing his Ethereum Name Service (ENS) name and asking fellow celebrities for art picks.

Today, the Oscar-winning “The Silence of the Lambs” thespian changed his Twitter display name to AHopkins.eth, an ENS name that points to a crypto wallet. It's a common move for people in the NFT and crypto world, adopted by other public figures who are in the space like comedian and TV host Jimmy Fallon.

Along with his updated Twitter profile, Hopkins tweeted to Fallon and fellow Web3-savvy celebrities—rapper Snoop Dogg and actress Reese Witherspoon—for their recommendations on NFT artwork to purchase.

“I’m astonished by all the great NFT artists. Jumping in to acquire my first piece, any recommendations?” he tweeted, tagging all three entertainment industry colleagues.

Fallon responded first, writing: “I love your pondering photo. There [are] a bunch of great artists out there and it’s a fun community in general. But, as the great Aaron Neville once said ‘I don’t know much - but I know I love you.’ And that may be all you need to know. DM me.”

Hopkins’ tweet has yielded thousands of other engagements. Reactions from Twitter users include excited NFT enthusiasts seeing another high-profile entertainer explore the space, along with crypto critics mocking or attacking the actor for showing interest in the space.

An NFT works like a proof of ownership to an item, and often represents digital goods such as artwork, collectibles, and video game items. The film and music industries are increasingly adopting NFT technology, with both established artists and emerging creators in each space.

Hopkins’ film project “Zero Contact” was released last year via Vuele, a platform that releases film projects in the form of NFTs. Vuele bundles films with additional behind-the-scenes content, along with exclusive interactive opportunities such as Q&A sessions.

Notable filmmakers such as Kevin Smith and Quentin Tarantino have also made moves in the NFT space.

The ENS name AHopkins.eth was apparently purchased in May, but the wallet associated with the ENS name has yet to purchase any additional NFTs. However, since Hopkins advertised the wallet address via his Twitter name, it has been sent a couple of NFT images from random users—a common occurrence with wallets from celebrities and brands.

Snoop Dogg is a notable NFT collector who owns images from the Bored Ape Yacht Club and other projects. He has also released NFTs himself, including in partnership with The Sandbox and the creator of the Nyan Cat meme. Snoop Dogg has also claimed to be Cozomo de’ Medici, a pseudonymous NFT collector with a very valuable collection.

Fallon is an owner of NFTs in valuable, high-profile collections like the Bored Ape Yacht Club and Moonbirds. Witherspoon has advocated for Web3 tech and her Hello Sunshine studio is developing TV and film projects based on the World of Women NFT collection.
