McDonald's in China has released its first-ever NFT to commemorate the brand’s 31st anniversary in mainland China. Known as ‘Big Mac Rubik’s Cube’, the NFT has been inspired by the brand’s new Shanghai offices.

McDonald’s in China Releases Big Mac NFT

The Big Mac Cube NFT is the first drop among a series of 188 non-fungible token collectible artworks that will be released for its employees and franchise customers as limited-edition gifts. Formed as “a three-dimensional dynamic digital creative work inspired by the brand spirit of McDonald’s,” the NFTs are based on headquarters’ newly-designed building.

Built on Confluux public blockchain, the NFTs were created in partnership with Cocafe, a digital asset creation agency, ensuring that “each work is unique, indivisible and cannot be tampered with.”

Interestingly, a majority stake of McDonald’s China is owned by CITIC Group, a state-owned investment company of the People's Republic of China.

CEO of McDonald’s China, Zhang Jiayin, said:

“Donald’s is a young and trendy brand that has always paid attention to fashion trends and cutting-edge technology. I am very happy that McDonald’s has become the first domestic restaurant brand to release NFT. McDonald’s China’s new headquarters building is a brand new development of McDonald’s China. Milestones. At this special moment, we use the form of NFT to share McDonald’s innovation, digitalization and trend art with employees and consumers.”

Fast Food Chains Jumps on the Non-Fungible Token Bandwagon

McDonald’s is not the only fast-food chain to launch its own line of NFTs. In September, Burger King also launched an NFT collection called “Keep it Real Meals”. Users could obtain the NFTs by ordering a specific meal at Burger King and scanning one of six million QR codes printed on the meal boxes.

Similarly, Budweiser and Taco Bell also debuted their NFTs this year. In August, the beer brand updated its Twitter page to show a picture of a beer NFT that it had purchased for around $29,102. The company also purchased an Ethereum domain name for around $100,000. Meanwhile, Taco Bell announced its taco-themed NFTs on the Rarible NFT marketplace.
