Ubisoft claims that its Assassin’s Creed video game series has sold no less than 200 million copies worldwide.
Despite being one of the most prominent game publishers in the Web 3.0 space as it is, Ubisoft has made yet another move. The company behind popular games such as Just Dance and Far Cry is taking its non-fungible token (NFT) play to a new dimension. Teaming up with Integral Reality Labs, Ubisoft will be creating an NFT collection centered around its popular action series, Assassin’s Creed.
According to reports, the collection, known as Assassin’s Creed Smart Collectibles are NFT access passes. These passes are minted on the Polygon network and have physical pairs or items inspired by the real game. That is, an owner may redeem their minted “Digital Soul” NFT for a physical collectible, which is a unique 3D-printed art, representing different heroes from the game series.
Interestingly, while awaiting shipping, owners may toggle with their collectible and choose from a range of outfits and weapons. They may also choose from an array of poses for their collectible. However, once printed and shipped, there can be no more customization.
It must be mentioned, however, that there are various rarity levels to the NFTs. That is, the higher the tier, the greater the customization power the owner holds.
Another interesting aspect is that each collectible features an embedded near-field communication (NFC) chip. The NFC allows an owner to view the digital version of their character via any compatible app on their smartphones.
Although Ubisoft is yet to communicate official pricing details, a pre-sale started on Friday and the official mint is slated to take off on May 16th.
Ubisoft Keeps at NFT Projects
It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time Ubisoft will be teaming up with Integral Reality Labs on such a project as this. The duo has previously worked together to release customizable, 3D-printed collectibles just like they are doing now. However, the previous collaboration was without the digital tie-in and was based on games like Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, and For Honour.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft has continued to show its unwavering interest in NFTs. The firm released its first in-game NFT items for a major video game in 2021. That was when it released Tezos-based weapons and asset skins for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint on PC.
Since then, it has gone on to create the One Shot League, a spinoff of Sorare, the NFT-based fantasy soccer game. Ubisoft also helped UNICEF to develop an NFT experiment based on the Rabbids franchise.
Since debuting in 2007, Ubisoft claims that its Assassin’s Creed video game series has sold no less than 200 million copies worldwide.
