Interoperable EVM-based blockchain, Flare Network announces a partnership with Uppercent, a Web3 ed-tech startup, to launch “Masterclass-like” courses on the blockchain. According to the statement, released Wednesday, the two Web 3 companies aim to launch an educational marketplace, powered by NFTs. These non-fungible assets will be used as the pass to unlock the high-quality online courses on Uppercent, taught by some of the most successful people in their field.
“We’re excited Uppercent has chosen Flare as the blockchain to power web3 functionality for the next generation of ed-tech products,” Flare Co-Founder & CEO, Hugo Philion said. “As firm believers in the potential for NFTs and the importance of high-quality user-generated content, we look forward to enabling the Uppercent team to use Flare to push the boundaries of UX and utility in the online education market.”
Traditional educative methods have shown to be inefficient and frankly, expensive, which has locked out many aspiring people from learning. Professional education carries a high cost of access, whether it is buying ‘expensive’ textbooks that aren’t easily resold, one-time access to classes, or single-user online courses. The latest partnership between Flare and Uppercent aims to do away with the high cost of learning by creating a secondary market for access passes.
The Uppercent platform is built with the goal of democratizing education, allowing any person with an internet connection to learn from the best professionals at a fraction of the cost they would normally pay. Uppercent members can buy, sell, and trade NFTs, the access key to exclusive courses produced by Uppercent instructors from a variety of backgrounds including movie stars, health trainers, leading business & mindset trainers & Forbes 30 under 30 entrepreneurs. The educators will explain their journey to the top, and the lessons they’ve learnt and also helps teach vocational skills such as entrepreneurship, growing your social brand, etc.
The educative marketplace is a sea of options for students, who can utilize their NFTs to access a range of valuable topics and courses to learn. Democratization helps users who have finished their courses to sell their NFTs to new students, subsidizing their e-learning fees and building a secondary market for educators.
“We’re delighted that Flare has joined our journey towards bridging E-learning from web2 to web3 with the ambition to rebuild the e-learning ecosystem and provide more value to all stakeholders,” Uppercent Founder & CEO, Jake Lee said on the latest partnership with Flare. “ Flare’s interoperability protocols, and particularly the State Connector will be a huge help in enabling us to build the first secondary market for E-learning.”
The education marketplace is expected to launch in phases over the course of the year. The new courses, lessons, and instructors will be announced in March. This ‘beta’ version will allow students to create accounts, buy NFTs, and register for courses. Once the beta is successful, the official Uppercent marketplace will launch, allowing users to start buying and selling access passes to the courses.
According to the statement, Uppercent is also offering free membership to their platform to users “who join the project’s Discord community before the official launch”, the statement further reads.
