David Bowie estate is coming up with an NFT collection in collaboration with OpenSea, the biggest NFT marketplace. Bowie was a famous singer and actor who passed away on January 10, 2016. The singer sold his publishing rights to Warner Chappell Music. The collection is called “Bowie on the Blockchain.”

The fans are not happy with the announcement. They created a backlash on social media platform, Twitter, where a user commented that he is going to scream. The estate said that entire sales proceeds will go to a not for profit organization CARE. The NPO works for global hunger and world poverty.
Stats on World Hunger and Global Poverty
The World Bank published statistics on global hunger in 2020. According to the report, 689 Million people are living under an income of $1.9 per day. Youth and children comprise two-third of this population. The Sub-Saharan region in Africa is living under extreme poverty.
North Africa and the Middle East saw a massive rise in poverty between 2015 and 2018 primarily due to the events in Yemen and Syria. Poverty rose by 3.8% in the Middle East and 7.2% in North Africa.
The report also mentions that 1.3 Billion people (22% of the world population) is currently striving under multidimensional poverty. A lion’s share of the folks (84.3%) in this population belongs to Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
According to a UN report published in 2021, 828 Million people were affected by hunger globally. 27.6% women and 31.9% men are going through food insecurity, whereas, 69 million folks are struck with obesity. The report says that there’s more than enough food to feed the people.
Non-fungible tokens can aid global issues by collaborating with organizations like CARE. Digital assets had played an important role during the Russia-Ukraine war. The proceeds have helped the victim nation to buy stuff to help the citizens and stand against their rival in the conflict.
