Next month’s NFT marketplace will tokenize art by Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, and Giorgione via Binance and the Russian museum.

Da Vinci & Van Gogh Art To Be Tokenized Via Binance and Russian Museum

In partnership with the St. Petersburg State Hermitage Museum, Binance’s NFT marketplace has announced that it is producing tokenization of the works of great painters including Leonardo da Vinci and Vincent van Gogh.

On 27 July, Binance stated that it partnered with the museum towards the end of August to produce and issue non-fungible tokens. An auction may be attended by all users of Binance.

This blog article credits the concept to the Hermitage, with its NFT replicas of Da Vinci’s Madonna Litta, van Gogh’s Lilac Bush, Claude Monet’s Corner of the Garden at Montgeron, and Giorgione’s Judith being auctioned for launch.

Two NFT replicas of each artwork will be made, one of which is auctioned on the market of Binance NFT and the museum’s second tokens. The director of the Hermitage, Michail Piotrovsky, will sign and date each NFT copy.

“New Accessibility Level In The Collection Of The Hermitage”

According to the blog post, the project provides “a new degree of accessibility to the Hermitage’s collection” while stressing “the democratic spirit of the institution.”

The tokens also aim to emphasize “the significance of digitization as a new stage in the realm of collecting artworks.”

Piotrovsky stated that The Hermitage intends to use NFTs and other digital technologies more in the future, saying:

“New technologies, specifically blockchain, have created a new chapter in the evolution of the art market, headed by ownership and the assurance of this possession.”

“The recognition of blockchain technology and NFTs by one of the world’s greatest museums is another step toward global digitalization,” said Helen Hai, CEO of Binance NFT. “We are grateful for the opportunity to work with The State Hermitage; together, we are producing history.”

The State Hermitage Museum will get 100% of the revenues from the auction. The tokenized replicas will also be on display at the Hermitage’s forthcoming NFT art exhibition, which is set to take place this fall.
