Cryptocurrency exchange Yobit has reported that 94% of stolen ETC from the exchange has been returned by the hacker, following a 51% attack on the ETC network last week which saw several exchanges affected.

In a recent twitter post, Yobit announced that the hacker had returned 122,735 of the estimated 130,417 ETC that was hacked during the 51% attack on the network.

Watch: 51% attack on $ETC

Yobit is well known as a less popular exchange due to some of their unusual marketing tactics, which include promoting 'pump and dump' sessions on their exchange. The exchange also has had its fair share of FUD for lack of communication or replying to support tickets.

Est 130417 ETC coins lost because of 51% attack.
It will be covered from Yobit Insurance fund, ETC deps/withdrawals enabled.

Yobit originally announced that the exchange would be covering the loss from the ETC attack by making use of the Yobit Insurance Fund.  The estimated $567,314 loss due to the exchange appears to now only be $33,417.

Yobit announced that they will be putting 43,000 of the returned ETC into their Freecoins page, which allows users to claim small amounts of mostly defunct coins daily. The coins will also be added to a new InvestBox which allowes users to invest their coins for daily returns. Yobit do make mention that this method of investing is not a pyramid scheme.

It appears whichever entity hacked ETC, has been returning funds back to exchanges. Gate.io reported the return of over $100,000 in ETC last week as well. Perhaps the hacker did not expect to walk away with so much ETC, and decided to return most of it, or was this all a ploy to prove a point?
