Coinbase just announced on their blog that as of today they will begin accepting deposits for Zcash and that after something like 12 hours, they will begin actual trading. This has of course seen the price move up notably and voices on twitter to respond.

ZEC is launching on Coinbase Pro. Starting at 10am PT, customers can transfer ZEC into their Coinbase Pro account. Traders can deposit ZEC, but cannot place or fill orders. Order books will remain in transfer-only mode for at least 12 hours. https://t.co/5nADybxqKk

Zcash is considered amongst crypto's privacy coins as it is possible to send "shielded" transactions that are untraceable. Initially Coinbase Pro will allow deposits from both transparent and sheilded addresses, but will only allow withdrawal to transparent addresses, presumably for regulatory and security reasons.

Of course with the announcement came a surge in the price of Zcash, with current action up 14% to about $92. Of course, twitter was not without commentary:

$ZEC on Coinbase. The signs were already there... https://t.co/B4BnzrwMpv pic.twitter.com/GQE08FlYnY

As usual, New York residents will have to wait and the coin is not yet available on Coinbase.com or the mobile app. When these events come to pass, you can be sure Chepicap will be there to cover it!
