AI Trading Volume Expands Across Peripheral Sectors

Cryptocurrency exchange MEXC reported significant growth across its traditional finance product suite for September, driven by heightened demand for artificial intelligence (AI) assets and semiconductor-focused derivatives.

Trading volume for tokenized U.S. stock spot products increased 81% month over month, while overall volume for AI-related assets grew 88%. Meanwhile, Pre-IPO Futures trading volume surged 60%, and semiconductor and memory assets accounted for 77% of the total volume among the top 10 Stock and Index Futures.

According to data released by the exchange, trading volume in AI-related assets outpaced the 63% growth registered by non-AI assets in September. AI-linked products represented 48% of total tokenized U.S. stock and exchange-traded fund (ETF) spot trading volume on the platform, up from 44% in August.

Investor interest broadened beyond chipmakers to include peripheral infrastructure, such as power equipment and optical networking. Four specific subsectors posted monthly growth above 90%, led by semiconductors and memory, which rose 100%. Optical communications and networking jumped 99%, power and energy equipment rose 96%, and computing infrastructure and data centers grew 91%.

Meanwhile, the data show AI companies claimed six of the top 10 positions for most-traded tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs, generating 59% of the combined volume for that group. Crypto-related firms secured the remaining four spots, accounting for 41%. Within the top 10, assets linked to AI cloud services, chip design, and data center infrastructure jointly held a 38% share of volume.

Hardware Manufacturers Lead Derivatives Trading

Derivatives trading remained heavily concentrated in hardware manufacturers. Semiconductor and memory assets held five of the top 10 positions by futures trading volume, representing 77% of the total among the top tier. Micron Technology, SK Hynix and Sandisk Corp. took the top three spots, generating 67% of the top 10 volume combined. The Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bull 3X Shares ETF and Nvidia Corp. also placed within the top 10.

MEXC, meanwhile, expanded its listed asset base during the month, increasing its traditional finance futures trading pairs by 15%. Pre-IPO futures emerged as the fastest-growing category with a 60% increase in trading volume, while Japanese stock futures grew 47%. The exchange also added a dedicated listing section for Taiwanese equities.

Among Pre-IPO contracts, Moonshot AI trading volume rose 115% month over month, Enflame gained 99%, and OpenAI grew 51%. The platform expanded its private market listings in September by introducing Pre-IPO futures for prediction platform Polymarket, memory maker YMTC, and health technology firm Oura.

The exchange currently supports more than 450 stock and index futures pairs, over 200 tokenized U.S. equities, and access to more than 7,000 U.S. stocks and ETFs via its RealStocks offering.

“September’s data show that demand for AI-related trading is expanding beyond chips into the broader value chain,” said MEXC Chief Executive Officer Vugar Usi. “For trading platforms, the challenge is not simply to expand asset coverage, but to adapt to users’ evolving trading needs.”
