A new regulatory approval is giving Deribit something it has wanted for its spot market, access to Coinbase Exchange liquidity. Deribit, now a Coinbase company, has received a Broker Dealer Licence from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), allowing spot orders on its platform to be routed to Coinbase Exchange for execution.
Deribit’s Spot Market Gets A Serious Upgrade
Deribit has already offered spot trading under its VARA Exchange Service licence since January 2025. The new broker dealer approval changes the equation by connecting that offering to Coinbase’s centralized orderbook, potentially giving clients deeper liquidity, tighter spreads and broader execution.
More importantly, Deribit clients will gain access to hundreds of additional assets listed on Coinbase Exchange. Assets bought through the upgraded spot product can also be used as collateral for derivatives trading on Deribit, subject to regulatory approval.
That’s a fairly important link between the two businesses. Spot liquidity is not just about buying tokens, it can feed directly into Deribit’s derivatives ecosystem.
Dubai Approval Expands Deribit’s Trading Reach

The upgraded spot service will be available to Retail, Qualified and Institutional investors. Deribit’s own spot orderbook will remain available for a smaller number of assets and as a fallback, meaning the platform is not completely abandoning its existing infrastructure.
The licence also reinforces Deribit’s regulatory footprint in Dubai. The exchange received VARA approval for derivatives and has operated its global headquarters from Dubai under VARA supervision since early 2025.
Coinbase And Deribit Finally Combine Their Strengths
The timing matters because this is one of the clearest examples yet of the Coinbase Deribit combination producing a direct product change. Deribit brings its established derivatives platform, while Coinbase supplies the liquidity infrastructure behind the upgraded spot offering.
The new product is rolling out immediately. For Deribit, the Broker Dealer Licence is not merely another regulatory checkbox, it connects its spot market to Coinbase Exchange liquidity while expanding the assets available across its trading ecosystem.
