Introduction
If you’ve been searching for “Coinbase Pro” recently, here’s the short version: it doesn’t exist anymore. Coinbase officially sunset Coinbase Pro on November 20, 2023, folding its advanced trading features into the main Coinbase platform under a new name — Coinbase Advanced Trade. If you had a Coinbase Pro account, your funds and trading history didn’t disappear; they moved. This guide explains exactly what happened, what changed, and how to pick up where Coinbase Pro left off.
What Happened to Coinbase Pro?
Coinbase Pro (originally launched as GDAX) was the exchange’s separate platform for more experienced traders — deeper order books, limit and stop-limit orders, and lower volume-based fees than the simple buy/sell interface on the main Coinbase app. In June 2022, Coinbase announced it would fold those advanced tools directly into the main Coinbase account instead of keeping them on a separate Pro platform, and by November 20, 2023, Coinbase Pro was fully retired: customers could no longer log in, deposit, withdraw, or trade there.
This wasn’t a shutdown in the sense of losing access to funds. Coinbase’s own migration FAQ confirms that Pro balances were transferred automatically to customers’ regular Coinbase accounts in phases, with email notifications sent ahead of each transfer. Customers could also self-initiate the transfer earlier by withdrawing all portfolios from Coinbase Pro to Coinbase directly. The one thing that didn’t carry over cleanly: any open buy or sell orders still sitting on Coinbase Pro were cancelled during the migration, with account balances adjusted accordingly — so anyone who left resting limit orders on Pro needed to re-place them on the new platform.
