Revolut is now a fully licensed UK bank, offering FSCS deposit protection up to £120,000 for its 70 million global users.

With its new status, the company will begin providing accounts protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) – the country’s deposit guarantee program.

Revolut Moves Deeper into Traditional Banking

The new license allows Revolut to operate as a fully regulated bank in the United Kingdom. This shift represents a significant evolution for a company previously known primarily for digital payments, currency exchange, and crypto trading.

Until now, the company’s core services included:

  • Digital payments
  • Foreign exchange operations
  • Investments and cryptocurrency trading

Now, Revolut will be able to expand its portfolio with traditional banking products, including savings accounts, credit services, and other financial instruments. The company stated that the license will enable the gradual rollout of new banking features directly within its mobile application.

Deposit Protection via FSCS

One of the most critical changes for customers is the inclusion of deposit insurance through the FSCS. The Financial Services Compensation Scheme protects depositors in the event of a bank failure, guaranteeing the recovery of eligible funds up to a specific limit.

In Revolut’s case, this protection will cover up to £120,000 per customer. This move significantly boosts trust in the platform, placing the fintech on equal footing with established traditional banks in the UK.

A Milestone in Revolut’s Long-Term Strategy

Securing a UK banking license is considered one of the most important regulatory milestones in the company’s history. Revolut has spent years working toward full authorization in its primary market.

As of March 2026, the company has reached an impressive 70 million users worldwide. This new status will allow it to compete more effectively against both traditional institutions and other digital banks or fintech platforms.

As the fintech industry evolves, regulatory licenses have become a decisive factor for companies aiming to expand their global presence while operating within strict financial frameworks. Revolut announced it will unveil additional banking features and products as the integration of the license continues.
