Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, has partnered with global asset manager Franklin Templeton on its institutional collateral program.
Binance announced in a statement that it has partnered with Franklin Templeton to launch a joint over-the-counter (OTC) collateral program for institutional investors.
The program allows shares of a tokenized money market fund (MMF) issued by Franklin Templeton to be used as OTC collateral on Binance.
Accordingly, the program operates on the infrastructure of Binance’s institutional custody platform, Ceffu, and allows tokenized money market fund shares issued through Franklin Templeton’s technology platform to be used as collateral for transactions on Binance.
The company explained that this arrangement significantly reduces counterparty risk because the actual assets are held on an external custody platform.
According to this program, an institutional investor can purchase Franklin Templeton’s money market fund on the Benji network. Binance will be able to see this purchase on-chain and, depending on the size of the purchase, will open a spot or futures credit line for the investor on its platform. This allows the investor to conduct cryptocurrency transactions through Binance without transferring any funds to Binance, simply by purchasing the fund on Franklin Templeton’s Benji network.
“…The program is designed to increase capital efficiency and reduce counterparty risk by holding assets in third-party custodians outside of the exchange and reflecting the collateral value in Binance’s trading environment using Ceffu’s custody layer.”
This initiative builds on the strategic collaboration announced by Franklin Templeton and Binance in September 2025 and reflects the convergence between traditional finance and digital assets.
