Key Takeaways

  • Travel Retail Norway now accepts Bitcoin payments at Oslo Airport using the Lightning Network.
  • The integration enables fast, low-cost transactions with plans for broader future expansion.

Travel Retail Norway (TRN), operator of duty-free and travel retail outlets across major airports in Norway, now accepts Bitcoin at Oslo Airport for Click & Collect (Klikk & Hent) purchases, according to a recent report.

Click & Collect is TRN’s digital pre-order service that lets passengers purchase duty-free goods online and collect them at the airport, reducing waiting times, guaranteeing stock availability, and easing baggage constraints.

The new option, available via the Tax Free Norway website, allows customers to pay in Bitcoin using the Lightning Network, with transactions settled in Norwegian kroner in real time and no additional fees charged by the retailer.

Powered by Satoshi Consult, the Bitcoin payment caters to customers who prefer using digital currencies, TRN Deputy CEO Haakon Dagestad said in a statement. He called Bitcoin an “exciting” addition to the company’s payment methods.

“Our mission is to operate and develop Norway’s tax-free stores to help finance Norwegian aviation. We believe that this will create a buzz in the Bitcoin community and help put Oslo and Norway on the map as forward-thinking destinations,” he said.
