The Avalanche Foundation and digital payment firm Rain launched the Avalanche Card on Feb. 26, 2025, enabling users in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America to spend cryptocurrencies through Visa’s global network.
Avalanche and Rain Partner to Launch Crypto Card for Conversion-Free Spending
The card supports transactions using USDC, USDT, Wrapped AVAX (wAVAX), and AVAX, allowing holders to spend digital assets online or in stores without converting them to fiat currency. It integrates with existing Visa infrastructure, bypassing multi-step conversions across wallets or exchanges.
“Cryptocurrency is a tool for empowerment,” said John Wu, President of Ava Labs. He emphasized the card’s role in simplifying blockchain adoption through familiar payment methods.
The card targets regions with limited banking access, offering a secure alternative for cross-border transactions. Its launch aligns with Avalanche’s broader push to expand decentralized finance (DeFi) utility in everyday commerce.
Rain, Avalanche’s partner, developed the card’s authorization infrastructure to merge blockchain with traditional payment systems. Visa’s network ensures compatibility with millions of merchants globally.
The Avalanche Foundation, a non-profit supporting the Avalanche blockchain, aims to accelerate ecosystem growth through accessible tools. Avalanche’s blockchain emphasizes speed and low-cost transactions, while Rain specializes in digital asset settlement solutions.
Eligibility details and sign-ups are available at avalanchecard.com. The card’s rollout marks a step toward mainstreaming crypto in regions underserved by conventional finance.
