Telegram users can now buy, sell, and send bitcoin, as the leading cryptocurrency has been integrated into the Wallet bot on the popular messaging application. The bitcoin support follows the wallet’s recent tether integration, which enables users to transact with the stablecoin as well.

Over a Billion Telegram Users Can Now Transfer Bitcoin in Chats

On Friday, April 21, the @wallet bot on Telegram announced the addition of bitcoin (BTC) support to its web interface. The development team explained that previously, the leading cryptocurrency by market capitalization was only accessible in the text bot. “Now, all @wallet users will be able to take full advantage of our web interface,” the announcement on Telegram details.

Telegram is extremely popular among cryptocurrency users, and according to a report from April 2023, the messaging app has an estimated 1.068 billion users. Bitcoin.com News confirmed that BTC has been added, as our publication tested the @wallet bot on Telegram. In addition to bitcoin, the cryptocurrency toncoin (TON) and the stablecoin tether (USDT) are also available.

To purchase, sell, and deposit cryptocurrencies using the Wallet bot application on Telegram, a phone number is required for account verification. The Wallet bot team also explained that the exchange interface has been upgraded in the latest update. “One of the most significant new features for the platform is the updated exchange interface,” the @wallet announcement notes. “With this new wallet exchange, you can now instantly swap BTC, USDT, and TON at favorable rates.”

While TON was the only crypto asset that could be transferred to other Telegram users in April 2022, BTC and USDT can now be leveraged. So far, Telegram users can send three types of cryptocurrencies via the @wallet bot. According to statistics cited by Techcrunch, as of June 2022, Telegram had over 700 million monthly active users, which is 200 million more than the 500 million monthly active users recorded in January 2021.
