Vitalik Buterin Says The Merge date depends on the hashrate.
“The terminal total difficulty has been set to 58750000000000000000000. This means the ethereum PoW network now has a (roughly) fixed number of hashes left to mine. bordel.wtf predicts the merge will happen around Sep 15, though the exact date depends on hashrate.”

Vitalik Buterin, one of Ethereum’s co-founders, today announced that the terminal total difficulty (TDD) had been set to the value of 587500000000000000000000000 (23 zeroes). This indicates that there are about the same amount of hashes to be mined throughout the Ethereum PoW network as there were before.
Vitalik also said that the precise date of the merging is dependent on the hashrate, and it is possible that the merge may take place before the suggested date of September 15th, which was given by bordel.wtf yesterday.
As reported by The Crypto Basic Terence Tsao, the Ethereum protocol developer, disclosed that the mainnet merging of Ethereum may take place sooner than was previously anticipated. He said that the integration of Ethereum’s Proof-of-Work (PoW) and Proof-of-Stake (PoS) will most likely take place on or around TTD 5875000000000000000000 (18 zeroes). He predicted that the Merge might occur on September 15 or 16, 2022.
