According to its recent disclosure, the Ethereum Foundation (EF) has channeled 45,000 ether, valued at approximately $120 million, into four decentralized finance (defi) platforms.
4 Defi Giants Get a Boost From the Ethereum Foundation
Amid scrutiny over frequent large-scale divestments of ETH to fund operations—paired with internal discord, leadership disputes, and governance ambiguities—the organization has faced mounting questions about its operational candor. These tensions have spurred reforms, culminating in last month’s establishment of a multi-signature wallet designed to facilitate defi engagements.
On Feb. 13, the EF revealed via social platform X that it had apportioned 45,000 ETH across distinct defi protocols: 10,000 ETH to Spark, 10,000 ETH to Aave Prime, 20,800 ETH to Aave Core, and 4,200 ETH to Compound. “We’re grateful for the entire Ethereum security community that has worked diligently to make Ethereum defi secure and usable,” the EF X account wrote.

More to come, including exploring staking.
The EF’s post on X ignited a kaleidoscope of interpretations among its audience, with analyses spanning skepticism, intrigue, and speculative theorizing. “Took you years to invest in the ecosystem instead of selling. But better late than never,” one individual wrote. “Supporting the incumbents. Feels like Tradfi all over again,” another person quipped. Vitalik Buterin’s recent proposition to resurrect communism under the banner of rendering it “great again” ignited a flurry of critiques as well.
“I guess communism was never an option Vitalik Buterin,” one individual said.
Observing these developments suggests that the organization is navigating a transformative period marked by renewed commitments to operational integrity, despite many being skeptical. This measured recalibration hints at evolving relationships between transparency and innovation. Stakeholder feedback highlights the need for strategic reforms while market sentiment anticipates future progress. Whether the EF’s maneuvers will culminate in the best possible outcome remains a matter of conjecture.
