Crypto Twitter was taken by storm this weekend after the hashtags associated with Bitcoin (BTC) received a major emoji boost.

Since Saturday, whenever Twitter users use the #Bitcoin or #BTC hashtags, the traditional ₿ logo appears alongside the text when the tweet is posted.

This update has resulted in a flurry of excitement across Twitter, with a number of influencers and major crypto brands doing their best to make #Bitcoin trend on the main Twitter recommendation list.

The addition of the ₿ emoji appears to be the result of Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s ongoing interest in the leading digital asset. Dorsey tweeted on Saturday to inform people that the emoji is now available while also cc’ing the developers at Unicode, who are responsible for the mainstream emojis found on various messaging devices and apps.

#bitcoin cc:@unicode

Interestingly, this news comes within days of Twitter taking action against the popular financial blog Zero Hedge for what they are calling “harassment” after it published an article questioning the involvement of a Chinese scientist in the outbreak of the coronavirus.
