Injective activated fixed gas costs for core exchange transactions on Oct. 17, giving traders and app developers a published schedule for placing and canceling orders, depositing funds and making withdrawals.
The mainnet change took effect through governance proposal IIP-709 at the end of block **187,720,178**, timestamped **1:02:19 p.m. ET**, according to chain records. The live exchange parameters now show `fixed_gas_enabled` set to `true`.
For users and applications accessing Injective’s exchange module, the change replaces transaction-by-transaction gas estimation with predetermined costs for supported operations. The proposal says traders and integrators can set gas from published values rather than simulating each transaction, reducing latency and failures caused by insufficient gas. The feature had been running on testnet since July.

What Traders Pay
The schedule fixes the gas assigned to individual exchange messages, rather than imposing one identical fee on every transaction. Injective’s developer reference lists 180,000 gas for a spot market order and 190,000 for a derivative market order. Its suggested single-message transaction budgets add a 120,000-gas allowance for preliminary checks, including signature verification.

Source: Injective developer documentation. Suggested budgets assume one message and include a 120,000-gas allowance for preliminary checks; gas units are not $INJ fees.
At the current base gas price, those suggested budgets imply fees of **0.000048 $INJ for a spot market order** and **0.0000496 $INJ for a derivative market order**, calculated using Injective’s fee formula. These are budget-based examples, not a universal charge: the submitted gas limit and gas price determine the transaction fee.
Previously, gas was metered from computational work such as reads and writes to chain storage. Two successful single-message spot market orders from the same wallet and market, recorded in the minute before activation, paid approximately 0.0000195 $INJ and 0.0000553 $INJ. Those individual examples illustrate the prior variation, not an average fee or an across-the-board saving from the change.
The published schedule covers spot, derivative and binary-options order messages, along with deposits, withdrawals, transfers and position-margin adjustments. Injective’s announcement also highlighted perpetual trades and real-world-asset markets. The relevant distinction is the operation used: fixed gas applies to supported exchange messages, not automatically to every transaction involving a tokenized asset. Batch-order gas still scales with the number and type of orders.
IIP-709 changed only the fixed-gas switch. The proposal explicitly left all other exchange parameters unchanged, including the separate trading-fee settings.
