XRP October Countdown Begins: Two Dates Could Matter

$XRP holders are looking ahead to two important dates in October as Ripple prepares for its annual Swell conference and the $XRP Ledger approaches another round of protocol fixes.

The developments could put the $XRP ecosystem in focus this month, with one event centered on institutional adoption and industry discussions, while the other concerns the network's technical infrastructure.

From October 27 to 29, 2026, leaders from finance, crypto, and the $XRP community will come together for talks, panels, and discussions at the Swell event in New York. For the first time, Ripple combines Swell with Apex, the summit for developers, institutions, and investors building on the $XRP Ledger, and UBRI Connect, the academic conference for Ripple's University Blockchain Research Initiative, which brings together researchers and students from its global university network.

Across three stages, the Swell event will explore where finance is heading: liquidity and settlement, tokenization of real-world assets, stablecoins in bank-grade production, the first year of the spot $XRP ETFs, AI agents that move money, and post-quantum security, while Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz and Ayo Akinyele, Senior Director of Engineering at RippleX, will discuss what's next for the $XRP Ledger.

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse will participate in a fireside chat on the evolution of digital assets and where the industry is headed. He will also moderate two conversations: one with Tom Farley, Chairman and CEO of Bullish, on digital asset markets and the future of global finance, and one with actor and co-founder of Water.org Matt Damon and Gary White on how technology and partnerships expand access to financial opportunity.

$XRP fix upgrade to go live in October

The fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment, a collection of fixes for Single Asset Vaults, the Lending Protocol, Automated Market Makers, the permissioned DEX, trust lines, NFTs, MPTs, Escrow, Sponsorship, transaction signing, and permission delegation, is set to launch on the XRPL mainnet on October 23, 2026.

The fixCleanup3_4_0 amendment is essential for Permission Delegation, as until it is enabled, users would not be able to delegate the PaymentBurn granular permission.

October 23, 2026, represents the earliest activation date, as validator support must remain above 80% throughout.
