How $10 Million Could Finance $156 Million in Loans
Permanent lending equity stays on AOF’s balance sheet, providing a financial foundation for borrowing from impact investors. Applying historical multipliers, ratios derived from AOF’s past funding and lending results, the study estimates Ripple’s $10 million allocation may attract as much as $50 million in new debt capital. Repayments allow that money to finance subsequent borrowers, potentially producing roughly $156 million in cumulative lending over the next decade.
Ripple funded the research, produced with TXP and ideas42, covering nearly 20,000 businesses and $960 million in loans. Researchers used the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis’ Regional Input-Output Modeling System, a model that estimates how activity in one industry affects the wider economy. Estimated historical results included $5.46 billion in GDP, more than 60,000 retained jobs, and over 10,000 new jobs.
The remaining $5 million of Ripple’s donation finances education, research, and a storytelling campaign, including its Digital Leap Forward Accelerator. The accelerator helps small business owners adopt digital tools and improve financial knowledge. Ripple’s original nonprofit funding commitment also included Hire Heroes USA, which assists veterans and military spouses with employment.
$RLUSD Connects Digital Donations With Financial Infrastructure
The contribution was delivered in $RLUSD, a digital token designed to maintain a value tied to the U.S. dollar. Such dollar-pegged stablecoins can transfer funds on blockchain networks, while AOF’s projected GDP comes from borrowing, repeated lending, and business activity. The $900 million estimate applies historical multipliers to the gift; actual future results will vary.
Ripple has also used $RLUSD to finance education through nonprofit organizations distributing classroom resources across the United States. Its $25 million education commitment supported DonorsChoose and Teach For America, with most funding delivered in $RLUSD. First-year results included 48,108 classroom projects funded through DonorsChoose across all 50 states.
Institutional services are expanding alongside those donations, with Standard Chartered launching $RLUSD custody on the XRP Ledger on Oct. 12 through its branch in the Dubai International Financial Centre, a financial services hub in Dubai.
A separate planned collaboration with Ripple and LMAX Group, an operator of institutional trading venues, would allow eligible tokens to serve as trading collateral while remaining in bank custody. Collateral consists of assets pledged to secure trading obligations.
AOF plans a public discussion with its research partners and Ripple on Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. EDT.
