$TAO gained over 13% following a new export control directive from the US government restricting access to Anthropic’s Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models. The decision reignited debates about reliance on centralized AI infrastructure.

According to Anthropic, the US government has issued an export control directive suspending access to the Fable 5 and Mythos 5 games for all foreign nationals, citing national security concerns. This restriction applies to all foreign users, regardless of their location within or outside the US, as well as Anthropic employees.

The company reported that, as a practical consequence of the decision, it was forced to abruptly disable the Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models for all customers in order to ensure compliance. Anthropic stated that access to other Claude models was not affected by this decision.

Anthropic stated, “We apologize to our customers for this disruption. We believe this was a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as quickly as possible.”

Following this development, the risks of centralized AI services being dependent on a single company, API, or country’s regulatory decisions have been re-discussed within the crypto and AI communities. One of the prominent aspects of this discussion has been the $TAO ecosystem.
