$BNB Chain has shared the results of its post-quantum cryptography transition tests against quantum computing threats.

According to a report published by the network, tests conducted on Binance Smart Chain (BSC) utilized the ML-DSA-44 standard for transaction signatures and pqSTARK technology for aggregating consensus votes.

The report states that while compatibility with the existing address structure, RPC infrastructure, SDKs, and wallets is maintained, the system generates a significant data overhead. According to test results, the transaction signature size increased from the current 65 bytes to approximately 2,420 bytes. With the transaction size increasing from approximately 110 bytes to 2.5 KB, block sizes also reached approximately 2 MB.

$BNB Chain announced that cross-region tests showed a decrease in the network’s transaction speed per second (TPS) by approximately 40% to 50%. However, it was noted that the pqSTARK aggregation mechanism used in the consensus layer kept the validator load at a manageable level. According to the report, the data load on the validator side was efficiently optimized thanks to the compression ratio of approximately 43:1.

$BNB Chain stated in its announcement, “Post-quantum readiness is technically possible on BSC today. However, the growth in data sizes and network constraints remain the biggest trade-offs.”
