TRON founder Justin Sun has set a 2026 timeline for the network’s move toward quantum-resistant security.

The plan includes a testnet launch in Q2 2026. Sun said the mainnet rollout is planned for Q3 2026. He described the upgrade as part of TRON’s aim to become the “world’s first quantum-resistant network.”

Meanwhile, Sun said blockchain networks must prepare for future risks linked to quantum computing. He said the technology may create new security concerns as AI systems become more advanced.

“As the founder of a major cryptocurrency, we should, while focusing on the benefits of AI applications, pay close attention to the risks brought by AI development, with quantum computing’s decryption being the most core key,” Sun said.

Quantum threat remains early but watched

Quantum computing does not yet pose a practical threat to most blockchain systems. However, developers across the crypto industry continue to study how future quantum machines could affect cryptographic protection.

Sun framed post-quantum security as a core need for the coming AI era. He also said TRON user funds would remain secure as the network prepares for new computing risks.

Other crypto players move on quantum readiness

TRON’s plan comes as other major crypto and technology groups work on post-quantum security. Ethereum Foundation developers launched a Post-Quantum Ethereum site in March.

Ethereum developers expect some Layer 1 protocol upgrades to finish by 2029. A wider execution-layer migration may take more years because it requires deeper network changes.

The Solana Foundation has also tested post-quantum digital signatures on a testnet. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong announced an advisory board in January 2026 focused on quantum computing and blockchain security.

Google has also outlined a post-quantum cryptography migration plan. The company set a 2029 target as large technology firms prepare for future cryptographic changes.
