There May Be an “Indirect” Collaboration Between Intel and an Altcoin

A subnet within the Bittensor ecosystem has made a noteworthy move in the technology world. Known as Subnet 4 and operating under the name “Targon,” this structure has published a white paper co-authored by Intel engineers.

This development is being viewed as a direct confirmation at the engineering level, rather than a simple announcement of a collaboration.

Targon stands out as one of the largest private computing infrastructures on the Bittensor network. The fact that two Intel engineers directly contributed to the published technical documentation indicates that the platform’s architecture has undergone significant validation. The rarity of Intel using engineer names in such technical documents has led to this development being interpreted as a strong signal of “corporate credibility” within the industry.

At the heart of the project is a system called “Targon Virtual Machine.” This architecture combines Intel’s TDX (Trust Domain Extensions) technology with NVIDIA’s Confidential Computing solutions, enabling encrypted virtual machines (VMs) to run on different users’ hardware. One of the most striking aspects of the system is that even the hardware provider cannot access the data in these virtual machines. User data, model weights, and GPU memory are completely isolated and protected in an encrypted manner.

According to the technical architecture, each hardware provider is assigned a uniquely encrypted virtual machine, which can only be decrypted after a remote verification process conducted via Intel Trust Authority. If any tampering is detected in the system’s startup chain, the encryption key is not unlocked, and the disk remains locked. Furthermore, virtual machines are protected by an IP locking mechanism, restricting them to the device they are running on; this prevents them from being copied or moved to another location. The system maintains up-to-date security evidence by undergoing a re-verification process every 72 minutes.
