The $XRP Ledger (XRPL), an open-source blockchain built for fast payments and tokenized finance, has activated XLS-81, a “Permissioned DEX” amendment that enables regulated institutions to trade in controlled environments while maintaining on-chain transparency and security.
Built on top of “Permissioned Domains,” which was activated earlier this month, the feature enables permissioned decentralized exchanges that mirror the XRPL built-in DEX but restrict participation.
Unlike the open DEX, access is restricted through permissioned domains that determine which accounts can trade. This structure allows financial institutions to participate in on-chain trading while complying with sanctions and regulatory standards.
