Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has expressed surprise and gratitude after Giggle Academy. A free education platform he supports received more than $1 million in crypto donations within just 12 hours of opening contributions. What caught his attention even more was that 90% of the donations came from a meme coin. It’s a development that, in his own words, changed his perception of meme coins.
Donations Flow in at Record Speed
Giggle Academy officially enabled its donation feature on September 21. Within half a day, the platform crossed the $1 million mark. CZ shared the news on social media, saying the outcome went far beyond his expectations. “I still don’t get how a $5 million market cap coin can generate $900,000 in fees in 12 hours,” CZ admitted. Noting that he did not know who created the token or how its smart contract was designed. But he thanked the community and credited crypto donors for showing generosity toward the project. The overwhelming response, he said, has “forever changed” his view of meme coins. In his words, “Meme coins have utility.”
Purpose of the Donations
CZ clarified how the donations will be used. He emphasized that Giggle Academy remains a non-profit project that provides free education. It does not seek to complicate its mission with tokenomics. The donations, he explained, will not go toward paying employees or covering server costs. He will personally handle those expenses for now. Instead, the funds will be directed toward community building, incentivizing contributors and expanding the platform’s ecosystem. According to Giggle Academy, the donations will also support outreach efforts and promotion to bring more learners into the system. “All donations will be in crypto, on-chain, and fully traceable. No fiat,” CZ wrote, stressing the transparency of the process.
