Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson provides more insight into his discussions with Ripple execs Brad Garlinghouse and David Schwartz, hinting at potential collaboration with the XRP ecosystem.
During a recent interview on the Cardano-focused YouTube channel Big Pey, Hoskinson revealed that he had a productive conversation with Garlinghouse and Schwartz.
He suggested that the engagement marked a positive shift from their previously strained relationship as both parties have since moved past these issues.
Potential Partnership Between XRP and Cardano Ecosystems
According to Hoskinson, the discussion focused on the respective roles of Cardano and XRP within the crypto ecosystem.
He also revealed that they explored ways the Cardano and XRP ecosystems could collaborate to foster adoption and innovation. The collaboration revolves around Cardano’s Midnight and Marlowe.
For context, while Midnight is a privacy-focused sidechain on Cardano, Marlowe offers a set of open-source tools for creating smart contracts on Cardano.
XRP Integration with Midnight and Marlowe
Commenting on the potential collaboration, Hoskinson suggested that XRP could be integrated into the Midnight story, thus enhancing its utility. Notably, Midnight utilizes a dual-token model featuring two primary tokens, NIGHT and DUST.
While NIGHT will function as Midnight’s primary transaction token, DUST will be the native token for governance and staking on the sidechain.
With Hoskinson planning to ‘include XRP into the Midnight story,’ XRP could become the third token on the Cardano sidechain. It would have designated functions, including its use as an alternative transaction currency on Midnight. However, this has not been confirmed at press time.
Furthermore, Hoskinson also revealed plans to integrate XRP into other Cardano-related technologies like Marlowe. He suggested that Marlowe might be a better fit for XRP than it has been for Cardano’s native token ADA.
“[…] it makes a lot of sense to pursue something like that,” Hoskinson asserted.
Hoskinson Wants Cardano to Participate in Ripple Stablecoin
Speculations around Cardano’s potential collaboration with the XRP ecosystem have made the rounds on X over the past few weeks. Hoskinson first issued an apology to XRP enthusiasts on November 10, ending his multi-year hostility with the community.
Afterward, he met with Garlinghouse and Schwartz to discuss potential partnerships around Midnight and Ripple’s upcoming stablecoin RLUSD. Specifically, Hoskinson noted that Cardano would like to participate in RLUSD. This could see Ripple deploy the stablecoin on Cardano in the future, after its initial deployment on XRP Ledger (XRPL) and Ethereum.
Notably, RLUSD will launch on XRPL and Ethereum after New York Department of Financial Services’ (NYDFS) approval.
