Famous crypto pundit Ben “BitBoy” Armstrong has boldly asserted that XRP will overtake Ethereum to become the second most prominent crypto asset after Bitcoin.
BitBoy conveyed this perspective in his latest commentary on XRP and Ethereum, which he shared on X on Monday. In his view, XRP’s path to overtaking ETH will occur when its value ascends astronomically to between $16 and $22.
Why BitBoy Thinks XRP Will Surpass ETH as the Number 2 Coin
Armstrong pointed out that over the years, there has been debate over which Layer-1 token will flip Ethereum by 2025. He expressed confidence that the feat would not be taken by Solana (SOL), the closest rival to ETH regarding market cap. BitBoy stressed that it would rather be XRP sitting at the number 2 spot by 2025.
We've heard it for years: which Layer-1 will flip Ethereum? In 2025, it won't be Solana—it’ll be $XRP sitting at the number 2 spot. Watch the markets. The flip is coming.

Armstrong reminded followers that XRP had already flipped Ethereum once before, in 2018, and now, he believes “the flip is coming.” He emphasized that XRP is not competing directly with Ethereum, arguing that XRP operates in a league of its own, as both serve distinct sectors of the broader crypto revolution.
He contended that Ethereum will battle competitors in its own space, particularly in smart contracts. He claims that ETH will struggle in the ongoing bull run due to intense rivalry in this section.
According to BitBoy, Bitcoin and XRP are the leading two crypto assets with “no competition” for their position in the market. “XRP is the chosen one for liquidity across borders. No other asset can touch it in the next bull run,” he said.
XRP Price When It “Flips” Ethereum
Notably, Armstrong pointed out that if XRP rallies by up to 3,000% this season, it will flip Ethereum. As of today, XRP has a market cap of $30.84 billion and a floor price of $0.5439. In contrast, Ethereum’s market cap is more than ten times larger, at $319 billion.
If XRP experiences a 30X surge, as BitBoy projected, its price would reach $16.8, resulting in a market cap of approximately $956 billion. Meanwhile, $16 is his lowest estimate, as he expects XRP to rise as high as $22. This higher price point would elevate XRP’s market cap to approximately $1.2 trillion.
According to him, factors supporting these high valuations include banking partnerships, XRP ETFs, Ripple’s IPO, and BRICS adoption. “The flip is not a matter of if, but when. XRP is about to shock the world,” he said.
Can XRP Truly Overtake Ethereum?
BitBoy believes Ethereum will not witness a comparable 30X price surge to XRP this season, enabling XRP to overtake it in the market cap. It’s worth noting that XRP only overtook Ethereum briefly in January 2018, as Ethereum reclaimed the position from XRP in less than a week.
Additionally, XRP’s price action during the ongoing bull run has been much weaker than Ethereum’s. For instance, ETH boasts a year-to-date gain of 16%, while XRP shows a negative figure of 11.4%.
In Q1, Ethereum came close to reclaiming its 2021 all-time high, surpassing the $4,000 level. In contrast, XRP has failed to approach $1, much less its six-year-old all-time high of $3.84.
Essentially, BitBoy’s suggestion of Ethereum remaining stagnant while XRP rallies by over 3,000%, enabling it to surpass Ethereum in market cap, is highly speculative.
