The Zilliqa team has announced a major step for the network. The mining reward halving proposal has been officially adopted with overwhelming support from the community. Starting in October, the monthly mining rewards will be halved every month. Zilliqa noted that this halving marks an important moment that accelerates their path to full PoS adoption for Zilliqa 2.0.
In the team’s official blog post, they also noted that the change was implemented in accordance with Zilliqa’s decentralized governance protocol. The proposal was first posted on the Zilliqa governance forum on September 24, where it was discussed by the community.
The latest move is said to not only be about halving rewards, but also about redistributing the ZIL surplus. According to the official announcement, the ZIL surplus from the halving can be redistributed for use by holders, fueling community-driven investment and creating more opportunities for developers and validators.
