Vitalik Buterin: A Leading Crypto Philanthropist
In 2021, Vitalik Buterin donated $1.5 billion worth of Ether and Shiba Inu coins to an Indian nonprofit to help victims of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Buterin’s revelations, the Shiba Inu creator sent 50% of the token supply to Buterin in 2020, in a bid to boost the market’s confidence in the asset. Buterin initially carried out a token burn, destroying 90% of the token held at the time; an estimated $6 billion as of 2021.
Buterin’s commitment to donating to charity has earned him a position in the industry as one of the leading philanthropists in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. According to an article published by the fundraising platform The Giving Block in August 2024, Buterin was listed as one of the known faces of Crypto Philanthropy.
