Avalanche, a leading blockchain platform, has announced a significant update that aims to democratize the creation of dedicated gaming blockchains. Traditionally, starting a blockchain has required significant initial investment and technical barriers that have often stifled innovation, especially among independent and smaller game developers.

In an innovative move, Avalanche is introducing a pay-as-you-go system for its Layer 1 (L1) networks. This development eliminates the need for developers to lock large amounts of AVAX, Avalanche’s native token, for each validator to support their blockchain. Previously, setting up a blockchain on Avalanche required locking 2,000 AVAX for each validator, which was a significant financial barrier for many. This new model aims to lower the barrier to entry, encouraging more developers to use blockchain technology and develop their projects without significant upfront costs.

The flexibility of the new Avalanche system is especially beneficial for the gaming industry. By eliminating high upfront costs, game developers can now experiment more freely and even dedicate specific blockchains to individual games, regardless of their size. Previously, this level of customization was unattainable for smaller projects due to financial and technical constraints. Dedicated gaming blockchains will maintain interoperability with other L1s on the Avalanche network.
