SolChat app from Solana has added an audio calling feature that allows communication between wallets. Anatoly YAKOVENKO, one of the co-founders of Solana Labs, previously announced a new feature in the X social network. The feature uses WebRTC, a free and open-source computer program that makes it easier to communicate online in real time. WebRTC enables communication through voice, text and video.

Users of the SolChat decentralized application (DApps) can now enjoy encrypted peer-to-peer conversations with their friends. Using WebRTC simplifies the direct connection between browsers and wallets. It’s worth noting that both users must be online at the same time to make or receive a call from the other.

The specific WebRTC encryption standard used for SolChat’s audio functions is the Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) protocol. DTLS provides the highest level of security and privacy. This ultimately prevents communications from being eavesdropped, falsified or forged.
